Short answer: a snack box makes a good Diwali gift because it lasts for months, not days, it stands out among the mithai, and it gets eaten. Here is how to choose one, with five ideas ranked.
The problem with the fourth mithai box
Mithai is part of Diwali, and this is not an argument against it. But as a gift it has limits:
- Oversupply. Most homes receive several boxes in the same week.
- Short shelf life. Most mithai keeps for only a few days.
- It blurs together. When everyone gives the same thing, nobody remembers who gave what.
Why a snack box works
It stands out
A box of roasted makhana and chips is not what the other guests brought.
It lasts
Our makhana is best before 9 months from manufacture and our chips 12 months. The recipient can enjoy it over weeks, with no rush to finish it.
It is easy to share
Individual pouches go into lunchboxes, desk drawers and movie nights.
