Short answer: ragi chips are chips made with finger millet. Ours are roasted, never deep fried, and made with rice bran oil. Per 100g they have about 499 kcal and 24.5g of fat, which is less fat than typical fried potato chips, along with 8.9g of fibre.
What is ragi?
Ragi, or finger millet (Eleusine coracana), is a grain grown across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, and in parts of East Africa. It has been a staple for generations, eaten as ragi mudde, ragi roti and ragi malt. It is known for its calcium content, which is high for a cereal grain, and it has an earthy, slightly nutty taste.

How they differ from potato chips
- Roasted, never deep fried. That is the main reason the fat is lower.
- Rice bran oil, no palm oil.
- More fibre. 8.9g per 100g.
- A different flavour. Ragi brings an earthy depth that a potato chip does not have.
What they taste like
The ragi flavour is mild and nutty. It pairs well with an Indian masala blend, and the crunch is firmer than a thin potato chip.
What to look for when buying ragi chips
- Ragi high up the ingredient list, not a token amount.
- The oil used. Many chips use palm oil.
- Roasted or baked, not deep fried.
- The nutrition table. Compare fat per 100g across brands.
